The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Concrete Countertops

There are advantages and disadvantages in regards to all of the available materials for countertops, and so the same goes for that of concrete countertops.

The Advantages of Concrete Countertops

The main advantage of concrete countertops would be that they are completely customizable, in that you are able to sculpt, mold, and texturize it completely to your own personal desire.

As well, concrete is also a material that most homeowners can handle themselves, in that they will not have to hire a professional to come in and do the job, which is incredibly beneficial to most people because they do not want to spend any more money than they have to.

As well, concrete countertops have an application in more traditional kitchens, in that you can use edge detailing and decorative inlays in order to help concrete countertops in order to make them blend better into more traditional environments. Concrete countertops are also incredibly heat resistant, and relatively easy to clean.

Furthermore, concrete has approximately the same porosity as marble, and so acids such as red wine and lemon juice for instance will definitely etch the surface if they are not cleaned up right away. However a patina for instance on concrete can actually enhance the overall looks of the surface and so a spill is not necessarily a complete disaster.

However there are those who believe that as far as advantages go, that concrete is no better or worse than that of granite, laminate, or tile, for instance, and basically the most real advantage to a concrete countertop is that they are new, and as well, they can be stained and glazed to basically any color that you wish, and so coloring is certainly not an issue as you can basically make it so that they will blend well regardless of what type of design exists in your kitchen.

They are considered as being one of the ‘hippest’ types of countertops that you can get today, and they have been out on the market long enough to amend the earlier problems that they had, however not long enough that you can easily find them everywhere. Also, the materials and process are fairly inexpensive and so the counter itself is truly not the costly venture that some of the other stone ventures are, and so therefore overall they make a great choice if you are trying to choose on a material for your countertops.
